Mechanical Designer / Draftsperson

Understanding that there are not a lot of drafters out there experienced in this sector, our client is looking to hire for attitude and train for skill, with on-the-job training included! Our client is an industry leader in the design and manufacture of conveyor improvement systems, in the areas of conveyor productivity and safety. Your new role will see you providing bespoke solutions to ports, mining, process, sugar and power generation industries, so you must feel comfortable asking questions where needed and have the humility to sense of humour to handle instruction whilst learning.

You will ideally be an AutoCAD expert in 2D and 3D, and knowledgeable in Australian Standards and structural steel applications.

Responsibilities will include (but not limited to):
- Design and draft jobs in a manner that will enable smooth production and maximise productivity
- Assist in the design and delivery of solutions that meet customer requirements
- Prioritise workload to ensure a high level of quality and accuracy is achieved
- Ensure cost versus suitability is considered for every project
- Verify design and drafting accuracy through regular post-job reviews
- Set realistic and achievable design and drafting dates and ensure these are met
- Be proactive in relation to safety concerns
- Understand and comply with company and customer safety and environmental requirements
- Complete necessary internal and external training
- Proactively problem-solve for your own projects
- Actively question processes and procedures that you are unsure of within the scope of your role
- Proactively seek out further knowledge and understanding from the team when needed
Qualifications and Technical skills:
- Must have a strong knowledge of design software (AutoCAD)
- Ability to visualise three dimensional designs from two dimensional drawings
- Exposure to Australian Standards
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Engineering qualifications or working towards these
- Previous experience with 3D laser scanning / point cloud highly regarded
- Previous experience with 3D modelling software (Tekla, Advanced Steel, Solidworks) desirable but not essential
